This fine house on the southern side of the Rake below the Emmanuel Church was built on the site of the old Courthouse after its demolition in 1864.  It was initially used as the Rectory, but a later Rector moved to Wood Side above Dundee Lane which was considered more suitable.   The house has had several owners since that time and the surroundings have been modernised, but the basic structure remains unchanged.  A plaque on the wall above the front porch is depicted below.
